A Length of Green Colored Cotton Kaya: One Patch
$55.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
64" x 13 3/4", 162.5 cm x 35 cm
This is a length of moss green colored hand woven nubby cotton: it is not quite a mesh but it is fairly lightweight and supple in the hand.
It seems to have been dyed first in indigo and then over dyed in a yellow dyestuff.
The panel was taken from a kaya or a mosquito net. There is one patch, a blue cotton one of a similar type to the base cloth which is stitched to the base with an erratic, interesting mending stitch.
Charming--and consider wearing it as a scarf.
