A Length of Geometric Double Kasuri: Blocks

$75.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
57" x 12 3/4", 145 cm x 32.5 cm

This is a very handsome length of indigo dyed cotton kasuri. It is hand woven and seems to be made of hand spun cotton yarns.

The pattern is graphic, simple and effective: we see two sets of centrally-placed designs, one set designed of four white blocks and two designs of five white blocks.

The cotton is slightly faded and the surface is very slightly abraded. The undyed areas are a bit dingy from age and although this length was washed the white has brightened only to this point, but it is quite nice and clear nonetheless. Please note one hole as shown on the accompanying detail photo.

This is a really attractive length of old kasuri cloth, possibly from Kurume.
