A Length of Gauzy Itajime Shibori Cotton: Loose Grid
$30.00 USD
mid twentieth century
50" x 12 1/2", 127 cm x 31.5 cm
This supple, lightweight--almost gauzy--cotton cloth was probably taken from a traditional Japanese diaper. It is dyed in the itajime shibori or clamp dyed method.
The cotton would have been folded, then clamped, and then the edges would have been dyed. The result is this pale blue, indigo dyed grid.
The indigo color is of medium tone and is blue-grey. Please note that the selvedge edge is a bit frayed and there is a tiny, tiny stain or two to it but this is not distracting to the overall simple beauty of this shibori cloth.
