A Length of Beautifully Mended Old Boro Cotton: Many Small Patches
early twentieth century
69" x 12 1/2", 175 cm x 32 cm
The surface of this length of old, hand woven, plaid cotton is studded with many small patches, about twenty in all--and they add a lovely, warm presence to this wonderful hand loomed cotton fragment.
The plaid is delicately defined and is slightly yellow-on-blue: because of the fading from wear the colors have faded which makes the plaid pattern soft.
The bottom fragment, the large patch, is mended with eddies of stitching, each lovely. Pay attention to the detail photos here and also notice some staining to this part of the cloth. Note as well a hole near the selvedge of the cotton, on the proper left, center.
A lovely boro cloth.
