A Length of Arimatsu Shibori: Bold Repeat
$30.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
25 3/4" x 12 1/2", 65.5 cm x 32 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.
This particular length shows four petaled "flower" shapes that are set inside a repeat of tie dyed diamond-shapes. The resulting image is bold and delicate at the same time and might even suggest some form of European decorative tile. Please not the faintly discolored center flower at the top of this length which is shown in the detail photo here.
A bold beauty.
