A Hemp Lined Indigo Dyed Cotton Bag: Recycled Cloth
$85.00 USD
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
19" x 12", 48 cm x 30.5 cm
This well-used, tattered bag is hand stitched from recycled indigo dyed cotton which bears the imprint of resist dyed kanji or Chinese characters on both of its sides.
The bag shows mending and repair as can be seen on the detail photographs, and, as well, it is lined in hand woven, undyed hemp cloth. There are holes to the bottom, exterior of the bag.
The long cording, presumably indigo dyed hemp (now very faded) is knotted in three places.
A lovely, functional textile from old Japan.
