A Full Bolt of Silk Shibori: Intricate Techniques and Rich Colors
mid twentieth century
approximately 12 yards x 9 1/2", 11 m x 24 cm
This is a full bolt of shibori dyed silk which is intended to be used to stitch a kimono.
As the shibori is still very puckered from its making, the color and design have an added dimension of texture and character.
The base color of the silk cloth is a rich burnt orange tone that shimmers in the light; the green, ochre, maize and white colored shibori design details as set against this super rich burnt orange appear jewel-like.
The pattern is interesting, too, as it suggests lattices or fences and in that regard there might be an allusion to something about a garden.
The cloth is highly textured and the design and color are luxurious.
A visually beautiful bolt of silk shibori cloth that is ready to transformed into any number of fashion or craft projects.
The cloth is so wonderful to look at that it will be difficult to decide where to begin.
