A Fragment of a Thickly Layered Boro Mat: Resist Dyed Detail
$30.00 USD
late nineteenth century
20" x 13", 51 cm x 33 cm
This is a nicely sashiko stithced an well-layered small "mat" which is composed of recycled indigo dyed cottons. Obviously cut from a larger piece, this fragment is made of four layers of cotton.
The overall color on front and back is dark blue. On the proper front there is a fragment of a hanten, the resist dyed kanji (in reverse) which once graced the collar of the hanten jacket is quite prominently placed.
The reverse shows a really lovely, narrow striped, indigo dyed cotton.
A lovely little thing.
