A Finished Cotton Boro Mat: Subtle Repairs

$85.00 USD

ca. early to mid twentieth century
36" x 32", 91.5 cm x 81.5 cm

This good sized boro piece is finished on all its edges and was presumably used for a sitting mat or perhaps for a baby or child to lay upon.

The details, both in the grey cotton and blue cotton areas are subtle: the patching and mending seen on these parts of the cloth are barely perceptible and this subtlety adds beauty to the piece.

The mat is hand stitched from about 9 separate pieces, presumably recycled cottons from either kimono or bedding.

A really handsome and lovely old cloth, in good condition, and with soul.

Recommended.
