A Commercially Printed Cotton Boro Fragment: Traditional Motifs
$25.00 USD
ca. mid twentieth century
38" x 13 1/2", 96.5 cm x 34 cm
This an attractive length of Japanese commercially produced cotton that is shows a large repeat pattern of lucky symbols: a coin purse, a money weight, a tortoise shell and other motifs that convey auspicious wishes.
The cloth dyed a kind of rust/beige color and it is mended with 3 patches, each of them stitched to the base cloth using black cotton thread and using eccentric mending stitches.
A lovely, light-hearted boro length and one that is imprinted with symbols of good luck.
