A Book of Silk Plaid Swatches: Textile Merchant's Samples

This is a textile merchant's sample book that shows a collection of silk swatches in plaids and in kasuri.

Within the book there are nine plaid swatches woven in tones of reds, purples, browns and coral tones and five brown toned complex kasuri patterns probably from Oshima.

The merchant who owned this book seems to have been from Nishijin an area of Kyoto city that is well-known for its silk and textile production and sales.
