A Book of Historical Japanese Customs #6: Early Twentieth Century Reprint
early twentieth century
10 1/4" x 7 1/4" x 3/4", 26 cm x 18.5 cm x 2 cm
approximately 100 pages
This book is one of a set of twelve that was said to have originally been struck in the Edo period, probably some time in the late 18th century. This book is a reprint of that historical volume.
On each of its pages is a black and white illustration which depicts an aspect of life enacted by those of Japan's elite classes; in some cases we see images showing courtly life during the Heian period (794 - 1185) but there are also pictures of the eras which follow this one.
A huge number of images are bound within this book which, as can be seen, shows foxing and light wear.
