This is a simple, machine loomed and machine stitched cotton drawstring bag whose basic shape and construction recalls the "money bags" or "coin purses" that have been depicted throughout history in Japan and China and have been used to symbolize wealth or good fortune.  This type of bag is referred to as kinchaku.

This one shows  a bit of light wear from use, but otherwise is in good, very usable condition.
