A Beautifully Woven Textured Obi: Sakiori-like
$95.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
118" x 7 1/4", 299.5 cm x 18.5 cm
This rustic obi gives the impression that it is sakiori or ragweave, but in actual fact is seems to be woven from a cotton warp with what appears to be a thick yarn weft.
As can be seen on the accompanying detail photos, the cotton warp is of black and white cotton yarns, and in concert with the dark colored weft yarns a kind of columnar, off-kilter checkerboard effect is created.
Just beautiful.
The condition is good and used and there seems to be very little damage or wear to this very handsome old kimono sash.
