A Beautifully Patched and Worn Indigo Dyed Boro Jacket: Patina from Wear
early twentieth century
34" x 52", 86.5 cm x 132 cm
This is an extremely handsome and very good quality indigo dyed boro jacket. It is patched equally artfully on its proper inside as well as on its outside as can be easily seen on the detail photos that accompany this post.
The body of the jacket seems to be made of a hand woven, softened-by-time indigo dyed hemp cloth. The sleeves and the mending patches are indigo dyed cotton. The sleeves are very narrow and are of a type referred to as tepposode. Were you buy this to wear it the sleeves may have to be altered since they would be tight-fitting.
For someone who is or has been looking for find a high quality boro jacket with good age and artful patching, this is one to consider.
