A Beautifully Multi-Colored Sakiori Obi: Ragweave

$105.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
80" x 7 1/2", 203 cm x 19 cm

This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

The warp yarns are of very fine, black dyed cotton and the weft yarns are fairly evenly spaced bars in variegated colors of purple, mixed purple and pin, mottle navy blue, salmon pink and mottled and striated pink and green.

This lovely obi is in good, used condition and both of the short ends are finished.  There is, however, an 3/4" or 2 cm snag to the warp yarns 4", 10 cm up the length of the obi (shown in accompanying photos), but this flaw does not distract from the beauty of the whole piece.

A beautiful, vibrantly colored folk textile.
