A Beautifully Layered and Patched Boro Panel: Hand Spun Cottons

$105.00 USD

late nineteenth century
63" x 12", 160 cm x 30.5 cm

This is a striking and beautiful length of boro cloth, beautiful for its hand spun cotton yarns, its good age, and its fantastic, restrained and gradient palette of indigo blues, the result of layers of patches being hand applied to this panel. For a serious boro collector, or for someone wanting a very good piece, this is one to consider.

This boro panel is based on layered patching and its result is a gorgeous and unintentionally Modernist-looking "artwork" of sorts. The panel's wonderful, geometric design is bolstered by a key factor you want to see in a very good boro piece which is good quality cotton which shows age. This piece has just that, and, as noted above, its cotton yarns are hand spun, another important and desirable detail when acquiring an old boro piece.

Both front and back are beautiful and are illustrated here.

There is a faint stain on the bottom, right-hand side of the cloth.

Recommended. Beautiful.
