A Beautifully Colored Sakiori Obi: Ragweave
$85.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
84" x 5 1/4", 213.5 cm x 13.25 cm
This is a nicely colored, fairly narrow sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The color is a nicely muted mix of mauve, mustard and green, with variegated warp yarns that produce the illusion of a wide stripe running in the center of the length.
This handsome obi is in good, used condition with just a hint of surface abrasion.
A very nice folk textile from old Japan.
