A Beautiful Shibori Fragment: Hand Spun Cotton

$70.00 USD

ca. late nineteenth century
40" x 13 1/4", 101.5 cm x 33.5 cm

This is a beautiful length of indigo dyed cotton shibori cloth which shows a really lovely, shape resist dyed pattern.

The cloth itself is a wonderful hand loomed cotton, rich in the texture that only hand loomed cloth embodies.  The shibori, a stark and repetitive field of of inverted "Y" shapes looks almost like the tracks of a group of very busy birds.  This is an unusual and beautiful pattern, very regular in its repeat and very clean in its execution.

Note that on the top third of the fragment there is a horizontal crease and a slightly discolored bar; as well, there are a few slight, light stains just above this zone, one of the stains being yellow in color.

Still, this is a really gorgeous length of indigo dyed shibori cotton, and one that is recommended.
