A Beautiful Hand Woven Panel: Plaid and Kasuri in Stunning Design
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
48" x 13", 122 cm x 33 cm
Few hand woven plaids from old Japan are as handsome as the one seen in this panel here.
The large-scale hand woven cotton plaid sparkles with gradient indigo color tones, reinforced by the warp and weft-based kasuri yarns used to create the white squares which are staggered on the left and right columns on this length.
Narrow orange colored lines appear both in the warp and the weft which add to the dazzling effect of the weaving mainly due to their contrasting color and warmth to the mainly blue cloth.
In very good used condition this is a really good looking length of plaid cotton cloth from old Japan.
