A Deep Indigo Toned Resist Dyed Cotton Cloth: Kanji
early to mid twentieth century
46" x 20 1/2", 117 cm x 52 cm
This starkly designed cloth is hand stitched from one-and-a-half loom widths of deeply indigo dyed cotton cloth.
In its center area is displayed a row of three resist dyed kanji or Chinese characters which are stacked in a vertical row.
The cloth seems to not have been used and its original intention for use is unclear however it is quite apparent it has been taken from a larger piece, maybe a furniture cover.
In any case it is a handsome old piece of resist dyed indigo cotton with a good size and with much potential in art, design or home decorating projects--or simply to be displayed and admired.
