A Sample of Fine Shibori Dyed Cotton: Counterweight Pattern
$65.00 USD
mid twentieth century
24 1/2" x 13", 62 cm x 33 cm
This is a fragment of very finely made indigo dyed cotton shibori that was used as a dyer's sample. The cloth comes from Arimatsu which can be considered the shibori capital of Japan.
The work is very detailed and is more or less perfect in its execution of the chosen motif. In this case it is a traditional design called fundo tsunagi or a field of interlocking counterweights.
Please note the faint stains to the top edge of the length and one to the bottom, quarter, right, both noted on the accompanying detail photos.
A wonderful example of very fine shibori.
