A Length of Beautifully Designed Katazome Cotton: Edo Period
$225.00 USD
mid nineteenth century
29" x 13 1/2", 73.5 cm x 34 cm
This is a short length of hand spun, hand woven katazome dyed cotton that dates, most likely, to the late Edo period or the mid nineteenth century.
The design is rich and complex as it shows a sky blue field upon which is overlaid a cluster of stylized chrysanthemums in medium scale. Orange and black details create a lush tonal effect which enhances the overall design.
The pattern as it is supported by the hand spun, hand woven cotton has a soft look and the visual appeal rests in the judicious use of applied color and delicate design.
