A Length of Pieced and Patched Katazome Cotton: Two Interesting Sides

This roughly pieced length of old katazome cloth has been hand stitched from eight separate pieces. As such, when hung on the wall the hand stitched seams are made in such a way as the piece does not lay entirely flat.

The crowded pattern of rustically portrayed paulownia flowers is interesting to look at as are the hand stitched seams that make the piece. As well, note the triangle-shaped mend which is detailed in one of the photos here.

If you have a look at the patched reverse of this length you will see how the maker of this length decided to go about patching this area--and you will see why it's a triangle shape.

The back of the length is interesting because it shows the repurposed workings of the textile and not only is it curious it is also attractive.

This is a lovely length with two attractive sides, each quite different from the other.
