A Silk Boro Fragment: Deep Indigo Stripes
$60.00 USD
ca. mid to late nineteenth century
41" x 14", 104 cm x 35.5 cm
This is a very simple but very beautiful length of indigo dyed boro silk which shows woven, deep colored narrow stripes. The silk itself is quite heavy and stiff, and the length is hand sewn from six separate pieces of cloth.
Onto the cloth six patches of the same silk are hand stitched, creating a subtle contrast between the patches and the base cloth. The condition is good, save for one tear which can be seen on the accompanying photographs.
A lovely and richly colored length of hand loomed silk from old Japan--which, when back lit, looks fantastic.
