An Old Ledger Book: Many Blank Pages and Worm Holes
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
13" x 5" x 3", 33 cm x 12.75 cm x 7.5 cm
This is an old, daifukucho, which is a hand bound, hand written book which could have originally been used for inventories, for accounting, for ledgers or as a record of loans.
This one is very thick with many pages, about 1/4 of which show hand writing done in sumi or charcoal-based ink. The rest of the pages are blank. Its two very abraded covers show hand written kanji or Chinese characters.
The leaves of the book show quite a lot of worm holes, as can be seen in the accompanying photographs.
A good example of a traditional daifukucho, with its original, intact cording.
Really attractive.
