An Indigo Dyed Cotton Kasuri Sample Book: 15 Designs
mid twentieth century
each sample: 7" x 14", 18 cm x 35.5 cm
This is a sample book containing 15 different swatches of indigo dyed cotton kasuri or ikat patterns. The patterns are of a large scale and of a type which indicate that they were woven in the early to mid twentieth century.
The book was probably a resource for a weaving company or a broker as the samples seem to have been woven by early mechanized looms which produced good looking cloth that does not feel completely industrial: there is a nice hand to these swatches.
The cloth covers show considerable wear and staining which indicates both age and that the book was stored and used hard.
A lovely resource showing a good range and variety of kasuri patterns.
