This is a dyer's sample book showing 41 samples of a type of small-figured cloth called Edo komon, a reference to the Edo period when this kind of cloth was in vogue.
The 41 samples are attached to seven pages.
The samples are of cotton and they are stencil dyed in variety of charming, minuscule designs in the colors of blue, grey and black.
All of the samples are intact: a great visual resource as well as a beautiful object from old Japan.
