Make-Your-Own Happi Coat: Tsutsugaki Dyed Cotton Pieces
$95.00

reduced from$125.00: two sets available
ca. mid Twentieth century
73" x 13 1/4", 186 cm x 33.5 cm, the longest piece

What fun.  This is a set of indigo dyed cotton cloth, all ready to be stitched together to make a happi or hanten, a kind of short coat used for work or at neighborhood festivals.

The parts are enough to stitch the entire jacket: bodice, sleeves and collar.  The cotton shows resist dyed designs and kanji, or Chinese characters; the cotton is tightly woven and crisp in the hand; it is dyed a very dark blue.

A wonderful find.
