This four panel ex-futon cover is made of cotton indigo. The yarn used to weave this cloth is the remaindered odd bits of cotton yarn from discarded spools, thus creating the uneven patterning of the weft. Cloth made from remaindered thread is usually home spun and certainly hand loomed and is called zanshi. This futon cover is beautifully colored, has a nice, stiff hand, impressively random densities of stripes and a great, nubby surface. The mending and patching add an additional layer of visual interest to this already beautiful cloth.
