This jewel toned, unused little cotton furoshiki is beautifully woven and shows marvelous colors.

At first glance it may not be evident that this wrapping cloth was woven from left over threads, but have a look at the weft areas and you will see the irregularity in their coloration indicates that left over kasuri or ikat yarns were used to weave these areas.

Likewise, it may be that leftover threads were used as warp yarns: the very narrow stripes and profusion of colors of the warp seem to point to this.  Cloth woven from left over yarns is called zanshi or zanshi ori.

It is a lovely and wonderful furoshiki: it is stitched in the katakana script and reads the name Sakusuke Karigawa (or Karikawa).
