Zanshi or kuzuito, is possibly our favorite country cloth here at Sri. It is woven from threads remaindered from spools; usually the weft is of knotted-together remaindered threads and the warp is constant, as is the case of this very handsome two-panel piece which is woven of repurposed threads.
Pay close attention to the detail photos that accompany this entry. What can be seen in the weft is color starting and stopping randomly: this is due to threads having been joined together to make one, continuous skein. As well, look carefully and see the texture of the cloth which can be slubby due to the knotting together of thread.
This is a subtle and self-effacing textile if ever there was one, and it comes very recommended.
A beauty.
