Aprons were worn all the time in old Japan by all classes of people. Women at home wore them to do housekeeping, farmers and tradesmen wore them, shopkeepers wore them--in the past, aprons or maekake were part of one's daily clothing, and, still, today, many people today in Japan wear aprons on a daily basis.
This spectacular little, very worn and faded apron is a marvelous example of an antique apron.
Its color is faded to chalky blue; its texture is the result of very closely stitched rows of sashiko stitching, show in detail photos attached.
We at Sri love aprons from old Japan and this one, so soulful and beautiful, is one of the nicest ones we have shown for sale, and is very much recommended.
A fabulous addition to any collection of Japanese country textiles.
