This is a stunning little boro jacket: it is shorter than most noragis or work coats which is probably the result of either the type of work intended to be done while wearing this coat, by the size of the wearer, or by the amount of cloth the maker had to make this noragi.
It is marvelously layered with indigo dyed cottons and this flurry of indigo fragments is wonderful to see in a garment like this. Pay special attention to the detail photos which show something strange: some of the selvedges of the indigo cottons are woven from kasuri or ikat threads, which we have documented in the accompanying details.
Note as well some of the eccentric mending stitches to be seen on this coat.
Layered and stitched coats of this quality are getting increasingly hard to find in Japan and we are very pleased to be able to offer this little gem.
Very recommended.
