This pieced cotton bag is called a komebukuro (literal translation is rice bag) as it was used to bring offerings of rice to temples and shrines during festival times. The 'fancy' aspect of this colorful piecing, done on the diagonal, heightens the festive air of this hand made bag.
The color of the cottons are in lovely contrast to each other: the saturated oranges and rose colors against the dark stripes--and the katazome cloth--are really lovely.
Collectible and recommended.
