ca. early Twentieth century

This komebukuro is ingeniously piece of cotton squares arranged on the bias; it is completely hand-sewn. There are almost twenty different pieces of fabric which comprise this fancy little jewel of a drawstring bag, which is unlined and fully usable.
Komebukuro, or rice bags, were fashioned from left over pieces of cloth and are usually a bit showy in nature: they were used to bring tributes of rice to festivals, so, as such, they were created with the intention to be 'gorgeous' and to delight the eye. In wonderful condition.
A beauty. Recommended.
