A Small Pieced Silk Bag: Plum Blossom Shaped Bottom
$75.00

ca. mid to late Nineteenth century
4 3/4" x 4 3/4" x 4 3/4", 12 cm x 12 cm x 12 cm

This is a charming little drawstring bag, made of rhomboid-shaped fragments of chirimen (crepe) silk in chartreuse, orange and purple; the entire bag is hand-stitched and lined in hand loomed cotton.

The real surprise of this bag is its base, which is fashioned in the shape of a plum blossom; the floral shape is accented by centrally radiating stitched lines of silk thread.

This cute bag shows wear and some overall darkening from use and from time, but it is a stunning little bag, most likely used by a Nineteenth century little girl--and most likely used in early spring.
