A Set of Three 19th Century Silk Fragments: Hand Dyed
$35.00

ca. mid to late nineteenth century
largest piece: 16" x 14", 40.5 cm x 35.5 cm

This little trio of silks is from a 19th century yose juban or a pieced under kimono.  The silk is flyaway, very lightweight.

The asagi or light blue silk is hand dyed in a stencil resist method: aside from the resisted areas (the white portion of the design), there are also black and grey details which were stenciled by hand and add a flickering quality to the overall design. The design shows chidori or plovers scampering through surf which is strewn with what appear to be chrysanthemums.

Each of the three pieces is different in size, the largest size is noted above.
