An Indigo Dyed Cotton Furoshiki: Katazome Family Crest
$135.00

ca. early twentieth century
49" x 50", 124.5 cm x 127 cm

This is an inky blue, indigo dyed, heavy cotton furoshiki or traditional wrapping cloth which is decorated with a resist dyed family crest, in this case it is a stylized wreath of wisteria.

This furoshiki was most likely one of several that were presented at the time of a wedding as part of the trousseau.

It is in very good condition with the exception of the stain that can be seen on the white cotton of the wisteria kamon or family crest.  Still, this is a very good piece of old, hand woven cotton that has been dyed in natural indigo.

A lovely artifact from old Japan.

Recommended.
