This length of patched and mended hemp is handsome in its coloration and its design.
It is a long piece of woven hemp that has been dyed in the kasuri method: notice the warp threads create a vertical stripe pattern and the warp threads create a figured ground.
This length is sewn from three pieces of cloth, and there are five beautiful patches applied with really wonderful, intense stitching.
For collectors of boro, this is a wonderful, old piece of asa boro to add to your collection. For others new to Japanese textiles, this is a really lovely place to start.
