This thickly layered and pieced-together cloth shows the essence of boro textiles: it is a combination of whatever scraps were on hand--including a terry cloth piece shown on the proper, left, top--that were sewn together to meet a need within the home. In this case, this was to be used either as a diaper (most likely) or a dustrag or zokin.
It is scrappy, as the title says, and it has a lot of character and charm. There are seven pieces of cloth that are sewn together to make the front and back of this piece, and there are probably two-to-three layers of cloth which create the nice thickness of this utilitarian cloth.
Lovely, crude and wonderful.
