ca. early to mid Twentieth century
106" x 5 1/2", 270 cm x 14 cm
This sakiori obi is dense, beautifully colored and nicely textured. The rags which comprise the weft are of good color and are well-woven. The warp is striated with color: the grey, black and orange cotton warp fibers lend color interest to this very good obi.
Obi such as this were most likely produced in the second quarter of the Twentieth century. This one has survived in near-perfect condition and is a very fine example of this type.
